Lucca,
in the heart of Tuscany can vaunt an intact circle of Renaissance walls which preserved its original architecture and prevented it from modern constructions endowing it with a distict, a bit old fashion, but undoubtedly charming character .

Le Glicine is situated in the center/East of Lucca, just a few steps from Porta Santa Maria ( one of the main gates of the city) which gives its name to the Piazza on which it opens.

Porta Santa Maria was built in 1593 at a short distance from the medieval Porta di Borgo that we can still admire today at the entrance of Via Fillungo, about a hundred meters from the flat. The gate is adorned in its center with a splendid bas-relief representing the Virgin and Child by Vincenzo Civitali, an important renaissance sculptor from Lucca, on the sides, 2 panthers, symbols of Lucca, seem to be garding the entrance.

The GLICINE

The flat owes its name to the beautiful and luxuriant wistaria which, at spring time, expand in long and balmy clusters around the small courtyard which the flat overlooks togethers with some gardens inside the townwalls of Lucca.

This attractive apartment is located in the eastern/central side of the city, close to one of the main town-gates (Porta Santa Maria), on the second floor of a very quiet two storey small house dating back to the XIII Century with big stone walls, old stone staircase, beamed ceilings etc. The apartment is situated in a small courtyard in the rear of a main building from which a corridor gives access to. The flat is airy, light, very quiet and offers, near at hand, all the facilities one can desire: a mineral water fountain, Internet café, bike-rental, bus stop, taxi station, coffee-shops, food-stores, baker, delicatessen, restaurants and pizzerie, dry-cleaner,pharmacy, museums, churches and the splendid Renaissance townwalls ( really a huge park, ideal for joggers or as a play-ground for children). All just few steps from the flat.
